The Mission of The Heart,

Linking with Poetry Jam

"Just as no one can be forced into belief, so no one can be forced into unbelief."
~ Sigmund Freud

Rooted in the heart of every man is a barren place that yearns to be filled,
and like the belly of a hungry child, it cries out for something more.
It is a longing that knows no limitations of culture nor walk of life,
for from the beginning of time, man has searched for a being to worship and adore.
Every religious belief of the Egyptions to the modern day Buddhist and Christian,
is an exhibit of this inherent need.
We were destined to seek and then to find
something greater than ourselves in this life.

This weeks Poetry Jam prompt is another point of view (strange gods).  We are supposed to capture the point of view of what God is or is not through another's eyes.  I decided to focus on the idea of the need for God that all mankind has conveyed throughout the centuries.  We may have diverse beliefs, but one thing remains the same; we all need the guidance of a loving and mighty God.

The Vision of Blindness

image: Duane Michals

"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~Confucius

Beauty is at its most brilliant
when touched by the hands of the blind.
No mirror can capture it.
Nor eye behold it completely
without suffering from sightlessness
the eye with a keen spectacle view
only envisions what is amiss.

Texas To Montana

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart."  ~Elisabeth Foley

Poetry Jam "Connections" Prompt

There is a mighty tenderness in friendship at the age of 10 years old.
A bond that cannot be broken by time, distance, nor foe.
In the beginning we were inseperable with laughter at our side,
yet as time went by the space between us grew more open wide.
One moved to Montana and the other in Texas always stayed.
So letters became our communication, and for the mail man we would wait.
Now many years have passed since the days that we were close on the map,
yet everytime we speak by telephone it is as if no time has ever passed.

I still conssider my best friend from 5th grade to be my best friend now.  Amazingly, we have spent most of our friendship apart, living in different towns, and sometimes far off states.  We actually only spent the equivalent of 2 years nearby each other, but the magnitude of the friendship made during that time has carried us through the distance.  The prompt this week is about connections and how they impact our lives.  It made me think of this wonderful relationship, that has been a powerful connection.  It has survived the erosion of time, and the vastness of distance.  We have both changed and grown in different walks of life, yet we have never grown apart when it comes to the matters of the heart, and that is the greatest connection of all.

A Mighty Thread

"Any fool can count the seeds in an apple. Only God can count all the apples in one seed."
 ~Robert H. Schuller

You can try to hold it all together
with all the might one man can bestow.
Yet, the fabric of life is a garment
that only the hands of God can truly sew.

Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Since I first created my blog back around 2 years ago, it has been a wild and wonderful ride.  I have met so many wonderful writers and made some awesome friends in the process.   Recently I was tagged by Bob at Average Poet in a great and fun way to get to know our fellow bloggers.  I first met Bob through Poets United.  I have truly enjoyed his amazing poetry.  Take the time to look at his blog.  The game I am participating in is called "The Continuation".  So at this moment in the game I am "it".   So hold on here we go..............

The Rules Are:

1. You must post the rules.
2. Post 11 fun facts about yourself.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in thier post, and then create 11 more to ask the ones you tag.
4. Tag however many bloggers you wish.
5. Let them know they are tagged.
6. Have fun!!

11 Fun Facts About Me:

1. I am the proud grandmother of 10 wonderful grandkids....ranging in age from 16 to 2 years old.
2. I love to watch "Project Runway"....I do NOT sew a bit, but love to see the clothes they create!
3. I am left handed.
4. When I was in school, I was always the last one picked for sports. (In fact, I was the one they would argue about having to take.) :-(
5. I hate cooked spinach!!!
6. I always wear tennis shoes.
7. My elastic band slip once broke at a graduation when I was walking out, and it fell to the floor! (by the way when that happens step out of it do NOT try to put it back on!)
8. I have sloppy handwriting.
9.  I have a huge fear of heights!
10.  I tend to laugh when people trip or fall. It is a gut reaction that I have trouble controling.  So far the only person I have made angry is my son.  But I truly am a very compassionate person I promise. :-)
11. If a movie is the slightest bit sad I boo hoo like a baby. (so I do not go to the movie theater much)

My Answers to Bob's 11 Questions:

1.  One of my favorite words is hope. (who could have guessed) :-)
2.  I started my blog for several reasons. I wanted a way to share what I was writing with like minded writers. I was going through a very had time personally, and it helped distract me in a good way.
3.  I do believe in alien life.  My husband is certain he saw a flying saucer when he was in elementary school.
4. I do not feel that I have accomplished anything truly amazing. other than giving birth. :-)
5. My poetic technique tends to be rhyme.  Even when I try to do free verse, I tend to gravitate toward rhyme.
6.  I have heard many good jokes in my day, but I can never remember them to tell.
7.  When I was a kid I had some comic books that were from "The Monkees" series. ( I loved Davy Jones!)
8.  I will always believe there is hope for humanity, because I believe in a loving God that created humanity.
9. I would abolish violence of course not religion.  I know that a lot of violence has resulted from religion, but the root of that is the thinking of those poeple behind the beliefs.
10. My favorite cartoon as a kid was Scooby Doo! :-)
11. I would rather be infamous. Fame does not look pleasant in my eyes. (I do not want to need rehab, or have some plastic surgery disaster!)

And now for my 11 questions:

1.  What is your funniest embarassing moment?
2. What inspires you most to write a story or poem.
3. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go?
4.  Is there a series on T.V. that you always record so you will not miss it?
5. How would you finish this sentense? "the love of my life is______".
6. What do you imagine heaven to be like?
7.  What is your first memory as a very small child?
8. How old were you when you wrote your first poem?
9.  If you could go on a vacation today, who would you take with you and why?
10. Is there a food that you just cannot eat?
11.  Have you ever witnessed a miracle?

Now here are a few friends I would like to share the fun with
(I understand if there is anyone not wanting to jump on the ride....no worries....just want you to know you are considered for the fun.)

The Hopeful Heart Is A Brave Hunter

image: Uzengia Aleksander Nedic

"If you knew that hope and despair were paths to the same destination, which would you choose?"  ~Robert Brault

Somethings cannot be captured like a photograph within a frame.
Just like some creatures in the wild cannot be lured and then be tamed.
So the weary hunter may not see the true exploration around the ben.
For it takes an enduring vision to detect hope through his scope's lense.
The hardy hunter craves his target and will seek until he finds.
For hope is easily captured through the focus of eager eyes.

When I saw the photo for The Mag this week, I saw a representation of a vision in the distance.  Something worthy of following.  A beacon of hope calling one forward.  It made me think of how in life we are all like hunters searching for a prize.  Something admirable to move towards. We all long for purpose and hope in our lives, yet like happiness, hope is a choice.  We can either choose to find it, or we can decide it is extinct.  The decisive ammunition is in our own hands.

Through Human Eyes

"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."
 ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

This vessel that has been crafted so immaculately by the hands of God
has certain limitations that I am certain are for a higher purpose.
If we could all see as angels see and touch their wings with our own two hands
we would not have the opportunity to learn of faith and relying on God' instruction.
For that reason, we are limited in this life.  Our human eyes do not see all that passes before us or stands at our side.  We must learn our way like the blind venture forward reaching our hands outward in faith touching the unknown as we pass.  All the while leaning on the guidance of something greater than ourselves.

Beauty Can Be A Beast

Sometimes a woman's greatest strength
can be a man's biggest weakness
for many a man has lost it all
focusing on one beautiful face.

Capturing Freedom

This week at Poetry Jam the prompt is to create and share a Anaphora poem.
An Anaphora is "the repetition of a word or expression several times within a clause or within a paragraph".
This is my attempt at one:

Freedom cannot be captured like a bird with tattered wing,
yet freedom can be embraced with voices that proudly sing.
Freedom will not be held down like a victim in the street,
yet freedom will lie comfortably where two hearts humbly meet.
Freedom is a nomad that never sits still in one place,
yet freedom is a placid pool unwavered by wind's change.
Freedom knows no boundaries, like barbed wire and skin's slice,
yet freedom has a grasp that pulls deep, like the moon does to the tide.
