“James Dean playing the bongos, NYC, 1955. Photographed by Dennis Stock ”
Ephemeral, eternal heart! ~Emily Dickinson
We are moved by the wings of longing
So we dance
We reach
We love
It is how we know we are truly alive
By more than a pulse of a beating heart
For there is a certain movement in everything
The soaring of unseen wings and visible hands bracing the fall
we bleed
we bruise
we learn
and rise to love again
it is the evidence of eternity
proof our heart beats for more than the blood within our
veins.

ReplyDeleteThank you Bev. Always glad to see you at the Muse.
DeleteI love this Carrie, reaching and longing does put us in a state of trying to live a life we can love and be happy in. Beautifully written my friend.

Love this reference, Carrie, of a throwback to the tragedy. A real pity and a loss to the human heart. Wonder of the notorious 'what if' if Dean had lived his life!
Hank
Yes those questions cross my mind as well. What if he had lived? Thank you for stopping by Hank.
DeleteWow, and again — WOW! Great write, so beautiful and elevating Carrie. Superb!

Thank you Gillena and Happy New Year to you and yours. 😊
DeleteThere's a sweep in this--like when your feet are barely touching the bottom of the pool--that lifts at the end. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful way to express it Chrissa! Thank you so much my friend!
DeleteAn awesome poetic interpretation, the 'feel' of what it must have been like to witness him with the bongo. The sheer emotion, you captured it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen. I really enjoyed yours! It was wonderful!!
DeleteIndeed, Carrie. There is always a marvelous kernel of wisdom in each of your poems.
ReplyDeleteHey...for some reason, your links often bring me to the bottom of your post, rather than the top. I think you are linking to the comments rather than just the post.
Thank you so much my friend. I think I have been clicking there to be at the post. I am glad you told me. I will just click on the title instead.
DeleteDancing is many folks way of letting go. I can remember several times when I had dance lessons but I never was very good. Where we lived north of Houston the ladies up there had a line waiting for Mrs. Jim to croak. It was not my dancing but rather that I would take their phone messages and give them to Mrs. Jim as most husbands don't very well. My line is that if that happens I want to be the fellow on cruises who is paid to dance with the unaccompanied ladies.
