The Little Girl Who Could Not Cry

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 118 hosted this week by the brilliantly talented Chrissa!
Come join us!

Sorrow makes us all children again — destroys all differences of intellect. The wisest know nothing. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is a red-hot kettle
the one I was never meant to hold
and my heart that burns with longing
has not yet learned to let it go
my soul yearns to go backwards
and speak with the child I once was
warn of hurt and danger
preventing so many scars
for I have learned to carry heavy burdens
and how to fall slipping in regret
trying to keep it all together
holding tight to things not mine to get
but like the Red-Footed Falcon
freedom is the truest way
and tears of loss and heartache
were never meant to be caged
you cannot carry an ocean nor a thousand buckets of rain
so why would you carry everyone's sorrows
and keep holding on to all the pain?
you see every poem is a message
that my own heart needs to hear
and drop by drop of ink and words
have helped me find the tears.

Flowers Do Grow In The Rain

You ask why life has so many tears
why life's road is always rough?...
but with each day and every year
we learn another lesson about love.

Sometimes the path we choose
can seem to be too hard...
but how much more can we loose
with just one more broken heart?

A finished diamond ring
is not beautiful all my itself...
it cannot do a thing
without the polish cutter's help.

Going up mountains and over hills
we are running into walls...
we cannot learn the growing skill
until we learn to fall.

A heart like a flower grows
and reaches for the stars...
but our eyes do not always know
the necessity of lifes scars.

Some flowers along the beaten path
are hidden among the weeds...
the rain showers they must have
are what help the many planted seeds.

Sometimes it takes hitting a valley low
to make us finally look up...
at times only a heartache's blow
can make us feel true love.

You ask why there is so much sorrow
why does life give us so much pain?...
but too much sunshine provides no rainbow,
for flowers do grow in the rain.

Crawling Inside Someone Else's Shoes

To know what bravery means we must crawl inside the shaking knees of a soldier standing behind enemy lines, that has no choice but to face what he has feared.

To know what prejudice means we must crawl inside the closed eyes of someone who cannot see beyond the wall of hate they have themselves built

To know what trust means we must crawl inside the open arms of a child that holds on to their faith in the unseen with all the might they have.

To know what grief means we must crawl inside the heavy tears of a mother that cries when faced with children at joyous play, for she is only reminded of the child she has lost.

To know what love means we must crawl inside the full heart of a person who has lost everything for the sake of someone else, and done it gladly.

To know what strength means we must crawl inside the still back of a paralyzed man who has learned to accept his frailties.

To know what loneliness means we must crawl inside the weary voice of an old woman whose words are only silenced by her own ears.

To know what mercy means we must crawl inside the mighty hands of God after we have let Him go.

Cement of My Soul

There are times my feet are eager like a river
clumsily following the path easy to flow.
And my eyes are caged like two birds
never reaching the place they were meant to go.
There are times my heart is wavering like a tall oak
that in the storm is so easily swayed.
And my tongue is flickering like a fire
unable to stop the smoke from it's flame.
There are times my hands are reckless like the ocean
never knowing when to hold to the shore or just let go.
Yet, the tears that fall again and again
become the cement of my soul.
