Linking with Toni's Wed Muse # 9 Anniversary
Thank you Toni for another wonderful prompt!!

Marriage is a book of which the first chapter is written in poetry and the remaining chapters in prose. ~Beverley Nichols

All my wedding anniversaries have sailed out to sea
One got lost at the Bermuda Triangle
and since has never been seen
My heart still remembers
But my mind forgets
Roses of longing
Are now long since shipwrecked
Another marriage got eaten by a great white shark
Every anniversary it held close
is now all lost in the dark
My heart still remembers
But my mind forgets
The flowers of wanting
are now wilted with neglect
for all my wedding anniversaries have sailed out to sea
no message in a bottle
can bring them back to me.

Ten Thousand New Shoes

"If you want to forget all your other troubles, wear too tight shoes."
  ~The Houghton Line, November 1965

Change can be uncomfortable like a new pair of high healed shoes.  It presses in too hard on the toes and makes you want to just stop moving forward, sit down, and pull off them suckers to make the pain stop.  The last year or so has been like ten thousand new shoes that I can't take back and I must cram on my feet and wear whether I like it or not.  Uncomfortable does not even begin to describe it accurately.  It is more like misery in red with heals too high trying to take steps on a slippery walkway, and sometimes I am falling on my face.

One of the changes that has taken place is my name.  I am no longer Carrie Burtt.  Now I am Carrie Van Horn.  A woman that obviously should not be married, having done so twice and unable to stick with the contract.

It has been over a year now since I left the man I had been with for 15 years and  packed up my things I could not live without,  headed to a friend's house, and never looked back.  Since then I have rented an apartment, joined a dating site, gone on a million dates, and last but not least changed my name.  It has been a grueling yet rejuvenating process, like getting a new pair of shoes that both make you feel good about yourself, yet hurt your old bunion at the same time.

What changes are you facing in 2014?

The Stab That Does Not Kill

Magpie #19
They say that a paper cut hurts worse than a stab, and Mr. Hoffman knew first hand that was right.
For he was watching his lawyer and Mrs. Hoffman's, slowly divide both their lives.
The sting of the silences had torn loves core, and emptied the words that were left.
Leaving a woman he once held, filled with morsels of regret.
Now its down to a mortgage, a dog, 3 kids, and 2 cars.
While he is left with regrets of his own, and a broken heart.
Afterwards he will lay with a remote control, and a dog on a roll out bed,
with regrets slicing torment inside of his head.
For these things were the culprit that gave the stabbing blow.
That have left him to live as half the man he had once known.

A great site for writers  Magpie Tales

"Do you know the most surprising thing about divorce? It doesn't actually kill you. Like a bullet to the heart or a head-on car wreck. It should. When someone you've promised to cherish till death do you part says "I never loved you," it should kill you instantly."  ~Frances, from Under The Tuscan Sun
