Drink Up

The tragedy of life is not so much what men suffer, but rather what they miss.

~Thomas Carlyle

We define ourselves
not by the struggles that we have in life
but rather by the way we face them
and handle their affect day by day
 that decides what we become.
Life and the battles we face are not a respecter of persons
They do not withhold the blessings nor the strife.
They come together with the air that feeds our lungs
like a cup and saucer for us to drink up.
Some of us sip it cautiously
 and others swallow it wholeheartedly
 and enjoy every drop.
 Drink up my friend!
Drink up!

  4. Yes, drink up! Drink up! There is something to be said for facing our struggles. I guess we all do it differently, but we cannot avoid facing them.

  6. Life offers all the richness and poorness for each and every one. Belly up to the bar, or slink away, it all comes a'callin' anyway. And yes, it's how we choose to respond that is of the greatest affectations. Stumble or fall, or wing high for the challenges, in the end, we must just carry on.

  8. I like the analogy of our blessing and burdens being like a cup and saucer!

  9. Drink up each day and move forward in the best way one can. I'll drink to that...

  10. Certainly my kind of wisdom! Life will happen without caring if we see the glass half-full, half-empty, or if all the liquid has spilled... How our life happens depends how we approach what we are given. Cheers!

  11. I'm with Trudessa. Great poem and love the Carlyle quote. Although as a former big drinker of life con giusto I do recommend sipping with caution occasionally:)

  12. Oh well, we always can not help the way we react to what the life proffers.
I certainly love the cause to drink it up wholeheartedly and take it as it comes. Well-penned. :-)
