Fulfillment Is Like A Dixie Cup

Linking with Poetry Jam for Gabriella's prompt "If I were"

"There are people who have money and people who are rich." ~Coco Chanel

If I were wealthy with more money than I could spend
and beautiful like Mona Lisa attracting all the men
with fame like Marilyn and grace like Fred Astaire
I would have everything I wanted and no worries nor cares
but if I am soberly honest and think it through like a queen
I am certain that this wealth would not truly change a thing
cause no matter where I live be it a mansion or a trailer park
I will still have worries and can still have a broken heart
in fact the deepest problems could possible get bigger to
for the more you got the more you truly got to lose
so pour my champagne in a Dixie cup and fill it to the top
I don't need a crystal goblet I am happy with what I got.

Fulfillment is like a Dixie cup that fills up rather fast
a little is sufficient when you have a fuller glass.

What gives you the greatest fulfillment in your life?

To Be Filled

Courtesy Google Images

Linking with the wonderful folks at Poetry Jam

Isn't that what we all seek?
Fulfillment?
We stand here
in this life
like empty bottles on a shelf
hoping for something good
something beautiful
or of substance
a morsel of nourishment
to fill the empty places
that only something
bigger can provide
but we must be
willing to take a step out
from where we stand
and be open
to the blessings given
if we are
  truly to be filled.

A Hunger That Fills Buckets

The ocean of the body crashes against the ocean of the heart. Between them is a barrier they cannot cross. ~Rumi

Lost is the place my heart wanders
nowhere that has an uttered name
it's a choir that sings of loneliness
a hunger that fills buckets like rain

it's point of exact location
cannot be found
on any printed map
it's a grain of sand to an ocean
a skyscraper laying on its back

 it's penciled in directions
to a permanent destination
that does not yet exist
it's a doorbell to a deaf man
a voice that shall forever have no lips

the true logic of the
code and boundaries
is teardrops tied to a locked up gate
it's a room that has no walls
a fork that will never have a plate

a broken heart is a manic hunter
searching for candles inside the dark
it's a cure that has no potion
a wound that will never leave a mark

for love is a mighty fortress
that no human strength can truly lift
it's a present we can only open
if we are willing to give back the gift

the heart's logical mathematics
is a lesson no one can truly teach
it's a rainbow to a blind man
a sermon no evangelist can preach

no sense can be reasoned out
of the obscurities of the human heart
it's lucidity to an utter madman
it feeds diamonds to a shark

for the ways of love and loss
are like a river and cast off stones
they wander drifting like a forlorn sailor
until they finally find a home.

A Bigger Fish

Meal Beach, Burrs Island,Shetland by Robin Gosnall

The Mag #159

"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."  ~T.S. Eliot

Mankind is the hunter of new horizons, the seeker of something more
pushing to greater lands as does the waves unto the shore.
He moves on ever further as a hardy ship upon the sea
hoping for fulfillment yet longing to be set free.
Sometimes it is a journey beyond the outskirts of the furthest town
and others it is a sojourn inward to reach what's lost and make it found.
Like the surfer hunts the perfect wave and the fisherman a bigger fish
so does the human spirit search for something greater...a purpose within his fists.

Kiss Life On The Lips

Linking with Poetry Jam a great place for writers that blog.

Life is a lover one must kiss on the lips if you want to feel its warm embrace.
You cannot merely touch its hand, or peck its soft sweet face.
Wrap your arms around it and hold it forever near.
Caress its naked truth and strip away your threads of fear.
Crawl into its cushioned bed and lie next to its reward of bliss.
For to live life to its fullest you must kiss it right on the lips.

A Shimmering Life

"My crown is called content, a crown that seldom kings enjoy. " ~William Shakespeare

Diamonds, fame, champagne, and pearls.
Beauty, grace, talent, and curls.
A 9 figure account, and 2 beautiful estates.
A sexy limo driver, and a party that waits.
A silver platter holding a glamorous life.
The sky is the limit on every want in sight.
Happiness should be her gift that forever unfolds.
Yet, empty pill bottles are all she holds.
I suppose one cannot have it all in this world.
It is a heavier burden than one heart can hurl.
Elvis, and Marilyn have shown this to be true.
You cannot find fulfillment if it's not already in you.

I believe that a shimmering life is not a glamorous one filled with jewels, wine, and popularity.  It is an inward strength.   A glow that comes from a peacefull heart that knows the grace of God.  That kind of life has a way of radiating outward like light through a window.  Giving warmth to all who come near.  People like that are always a comfort to be with, and a mentor to those in need.  Their impact on others is always far reaching, rippling outward like a pepple in water, affecting countless people down the line.  I have had the wonderful opportunity to know many beautiful souls like that. I am blessed to have 2 daughters that fit that description, Amber and Becky.  Click on their names to view their lovely blogs.  I hope that everyone has a wonderful New Year.  One that shines from the inside out.

Algebra For The Soul

(Regret + y does not = fulfillment)

All of yesterday's regrets are 100 chairs we can no longer fill
yet we will create even more for tomorrow
foolishly trying to fill them today.
