Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 113
Hosted by the utterly awe inspiring poet Shay!
Come join us!
My heart is like a child that still stands beside me
Uncertain but hopeful of what the future holds
We watch the world together standing at the steps
Hoping the world will see the beauty we hold
So I wear my best hat even on the windiest of days
Yet it is always my heart that gets swept away.
Why is it, dear Carrie, that we let our hearts get swept away? Will we never learn? Of course, you wear your best hat on windy days .... the fighter in you.
ReplyDeleteGreat question my friend. Something's are just too hard to learn! LOL
DeleteAh, it is good always to wear one's best hat! We may not know what the future holds, but it is good to be prepared in the best possible way and present our best possible selves. Don't let your heart be swept away! Hang on.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Mary for joining us at the Muse this week! Yes being prepared is always a g
Deletea good thing. My phone just went bonkers. LOL
DeleteLove this! I'm enchanted and delighted by the image of a wayward heart just younger enough to retain more wonder & less discipline that oneself. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissa, and yes the photo is enchanting for sure.
DeleteWhat a perfect little poem this is! I adore it, Carrie.
ReplyDeleteAwwww thank you Shay!!! 🌻
DeleteThis has such a wistful tone, Carrie. Its very simplicity makes it stronger, and I love the fall of the words, which like autumn leaves, hide the truth of their age and dissolution in beauty.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Joy!
DeleteOh, I SO love your closing lines. Just beautiful, Carrie. I had trouble finding words this morning. I seem to have gone silent inside under all the rhetoric. I hope it stops after voting day; hope that one loud angry horrible voice is silenced.
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel Sherry. I do hope the same for after voting day. Wishing you a wonderful week.
DeleteSounds nice, Carrie. Yes, girls' hearts are fickle, easily swept away. But not for long term.
ReplyDeleteAnd so far my readers are 0 to 5 in favor of my girls.
..
Thank you Jim. I did enjoy your poem. Have a great week.

ReplyDeleteVery true Beverly! So glad you stopped by.
DeleteI often lead with my heart...It breaks and mends, but I am always willing to love. Beautiful poetry
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful way to live Susie. We should always be wiling to love. Thank you so much!
