"Guardian" by Chie Yoshii
Linking with The Sunday Muse for Muse # 37
The crest and crowning of all good,
Life's final star, is Brotherhood.
~Edwin Markham
Life's final star, is Brotherhood.
~Edwin Markham
Like a warm garment in winter we were meant to be close
Comforting one another and guiding each other home.
Hand in hand and heart to heart from fox to owl to man
In a deep harmony like waves upon the beach’s sand.
All God’s creatures from great to small
dwelling deep in the forest to mountains tall
In the city and upon the beautiful country side
When we carry each other our true burden is light.

Lovely!!!! How true it is that our burdens are light when we carry each other..
ReplyDeleteI love the way the star of brotherhood in the quote links with the final verse's "our true burden is light"...I read that almost as if we are carrying light itself, all of us becoming so in the act of lifting each other up. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful emotion sweeps through every line. I love this, Carrie.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and interesting take on the prompt. There are so many interpretations aren't they? Congrats on the poem and also congrats on the prompt . . :)
ReplyDeleteI want to take that line, hold it in my arms, and surrender to it at the same time... because it's so true (and necessary!).
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful.
I love the warmth and message of this poem, Carrie.
ReplyDeleteI love the last line "When we carry each other our true burden is light." ... Powerful!
