Swept Away

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 113
Hosted by the utterly awe inspiring poet Shay!
Come join us!

My heart is like a child that still stands beside me
Uncertain but hopeful of what the future holds
We watch the world together standing at the steps
Hoping the world will see the beauty we hold
So I wear my best hat even on the windiest of days
Yet it is always my heart that gets swept away.

  1. Why is it, dear Carrie, that we let our hearts get swept away? Will we never learn? Of course, you wear your best hat on windy days .... the fighter in you.

  2. Ah, it is good always to wear one's best hat! We may not know what the future holds, but it is good to be prepared in the best possible way and present our best possible selves. Don't let your heart be swept away! Hang on.

  5. This has such a wistful tone, Carrie. Its very simplicity makes it stronger, and I love the fall of the words, which like autumn leaves, hide the truth of their age and dissolution in beauty.

  6. Oh, I SO love your closing lines. Just beautiful, Carrie. I had trouble finding words this morning. I seem to have gone silent inside under all the rhetoric. I hope it stops after voting day; hope that one loud angry horrible voice is silenced.

  7. Sounds nice, Carrie. Yes, girls' hearts are fickle, easily swept away. But not for long term.
And so far my readers are 0 to 5 in favor of my girls.

  8. We do tend to repeat some of our poor choices. Put on that hat, best face forward, and believe in better choices!!
