Big Bites

The real measure of your wealth is how much you'd be worth if you lost all your money. ~Author Unknown

There is a wealth in having deep empty pockets

cause the lessons of hardship
are a knowledge that sticks with you
like a warm hardy stew
you learn to take big bites when you have the chance
life is like that
it is all or nothing sometimes
a bittersweet surprise dessert
that we long to have
but we cannot keep
and we all are hungry for more
so go ahead
and take a big bite
just remember to
thank God for all you have before you
and don't forget to chew with your mouth closed.

  1. And don't eat with your mouth full, as I used to say to my son to make him groan at my bad joke.

    1. I like that one! I remember having 3 boys at the table and they would all be making smacking noises eating with their mouths open! LOL

  2. Yes, having lost everything several times in my life, I learned that my real wealth was in the beauty of the natural world and in things that have no material value at all. Today I walked a golden sunny beach and came home to a glass of wine and nachos and I feel richer than the people in the monster houses that line the beach. Smiles. I love your poem, Carrie.

  3. Humans are made for taking those big bites when we have, that's why it's so hard to live in a word of abundance.

I have been fortunate enough to almost always have what I need.... (if not what I craved)

  5. Great motherly advice Carrie! This could be the home of a family who practiced both frugality and love. I hope that is the case because I can certainly see that.
