Fallen

Some people embrace love with the fervor of a missionary
holding it close like a book of scriptures to the heart
while others just cup it softly and awkward like a nestling
that has somehow fallen from where it once was
the love I hold has wandered through both paths
like a lost fawn searching for comfort in the dark
once my heart found it
I grasped hold with the strength of a thousand men
never wanting to let go
yet too weak to try
now I tenderly keep it within my palm
knowing it is too fragile
to withstand another fall.

  1. Beautiful, Carrie. Love is fragile. I really like:

I grasped hold with the strength of a thousand men
    never wanting to let go
    yet too weak to try
now I tenderly keep it within my palm
    knowing it is too fragile
    to withstand another fall.

  2. def feel you in this...love is fragile...and we have to be careful on some level who we allow to touch it...because not everyone really cares for it...

  3. Awww... love that pic.
Yes, sometimes love is very fragile, depending on how many knocks it takes to beat it down and yet, it has the power to make a come back, time and time again even stronger and wiser for the lessons.
    Beautiful piece Carrie.

  6. Oh yes, Carrie, I so know about holding too tight and then learning how fragile the human heart is, and cupping it carefully. I SO HEAR YOU on being "too fragile to withstand another fall". Got that t-shirt for sure!

  7. A beautiful poem Carrie...love is fragile and life tries its best to shatter it. I tried to find a favorite line in your poem, but I fell in love with all of it.

  8. This is just beautiful, Carrie. The image alone says so much and to connect it to a love salvaged or saved is so inspiring. The element of trust is so important when one gives one's heart to another:

now I tenderly keep it within my palm
    knowing it is too fragile
    to withstand another fall

  14. We all learn from our experiences on how to hold it just gently in the palm of our hands...I specially like these lines:

    once my heart found it
I grasped hold with the strength of a thousand men

  15. "never wanting to let go
    yet too weak to try"
Are these lines important to you? It would describe my relationships pretty well, unfortunately, but I keep telling myself that my feelings, including love, are generated within myself and therefore should be able to be controlled and o be created.
