A Certain Starvation

"You don't have a soul.  You are a Soul.  You have a body."  ~C.S. Lewis

We live in a world full of antidotes and answers
there is a soup for every meal of the week
and a cream for every wrinkle and bulge on your skin
a diet for every body type known to man
we have vaccines for many illnesses that once took lives
and a cure for sleepless nights and many mental disorders
a self help book for every subject you can think of
a clinic around every corner and a church down each block
yet there is still an epidemic running rampant across the country
our souls have been abandoned in the process
and are starving for the nourishment
that only God's truth can provide.

  1. As profound a poem as C.S.Lewis's quote! ...yes.Sobering! His healing and His love cannot be found in a pill or needle. Relationships take time, as does discovering the ever-increasing wonders of God as we take time to get to know Him. Thank-you Carrie,

  11. Carrie, I loved this take on society's view of the "quick fix." Inasmuch as I am indeed a mental health consumer (politically correct term for patient of a psychiatrist and a therapist), I find that prayer is the single best source of making things fit together.

As a pastor's wife and committed follower of Jesus, I know many atheists who live the path of love as well, and I won't force their path to change... so I see this poem as a personal statement, one to which I can relate! Amy

  12. Wonderful thoughts. Too many people, like Andy, have everything money can buy, but really nothing.

  13. Do people still stop by the church on the corner? I can't imagine trying to live without it. Nice poem.

  14. It is sad, though isn't it? The spiritual hunger that is so often ignored or appeased with things and instant gratification. Still, there is nourishment if we seek it. Nice post
