A Vision To Behold

"Had the price of looking been blindness, I would have looked."  ~Ralph Ellison

I held her once my fickle friend before she had to flee
It seemed a mere moment that I could never seize
The only grasp I could hope to hold would never suffice
For beauty is a wayward kind that leaves before goodbyes
The only way to capture her and keep her in one place
Is a snapshot or paint and canvas held within a picture frame.

  3. Lovely poem Carrie, says so many serious things and at the end, did I detect humour? More of that please.
BTW, Ralph Emerson was fishing for his reader's need for pathos. He should have been told as a child "What the eye doesn't see the heart doesn't grieve over"!

  4. Lovely Carrie, and beauty leaves long before goodbyes...that is so true..but when it does leave before goodbye...it becomes legend and story of myth and magic...that line has me thinking...blessngs...I love your background....bkm

  15. Perfect take, Carrie - Capturing such beauty if only within the stillness of a frame is to catch that ephmeral smile exactly in its moment. It's like what Blake said -- "... he who kisses the joy as it flies / lives in eternity's sunrise." That's what you did. The Ellison quote was wonderful. - Brendan
