Martin, Mary, & the Moon

Linking with Poets & Storytellers for Writers' Pantry #23

We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own.
  ~Ben Sweetland

True words linger like memories of the moon
washing out doubt's shadow
giving hope a lit stage
for there are those that listen
and those that speak
poets that spark fires
and heroes that live by a brighter light
their tracks in the snow lead the way
and if you watch the moon
it follows too
brilliant light flows wide and long
and true words always linger
like memories of the moon
as imprints upon our heart.

This is dedicated to Marin Luther King Jr, Mary Oliver, and so many that are boldly inspiring change in this world.  They are the ones who enlighten and move others with a brilliant light that lasts many lifetimes to come.

The Candid Moment

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 95
hosted by one of my favorite poets in the whole world
Come join us!

“A poet looks at the world the way a man looks at a woman.”  ~ Wallace Stevens

The world is a runway and poets are forever in a photo shoot
Clicking through the blue smoke
Of life’s illusions
Searching for the candid moment
seeing every heartache
parting the lips of unspoken words
And capturing every hidden truth
Exposing life and love
 naked, raw, and lovely
not for the eyes to examine or identify
but for the heart
to truly behold.

The Daring Exploration

Google Images

"Not knowing when the dawn will come I open every door."  ~ Emily Dickinson

It is a noble yet desperate search the exploration
we launch in the names of fulfillment and happiness
an excavation into the deepest of passions
like a worm hole in the sand.
burrowing to the distant shores of man
longing for a verse that defines us
and a dream that makes beautiful
the ugliness of regret's disdain
taking back the loss
and filling it with something more
for brother sister lover and friend
you and I and yesterday's elderly
the dead poets and all children's hopes
each worthy of the call
the voice of humanity
it is an echo of longing's song
that rings out far beyond the grave.
