If Luxury Had Lips

"Living in the lap of luxury isn't bad, except that you never know when luxury is going to stand up."
~ Orson Welles

If luxury had lips she would kiss so sweetly before she ever spoke
draw you in with a soft sigh and then leave you in a cloud of smoke.

If luxury had arms she would reach out and hold you very tight
make you glad you came but leave you before the second night.

If luxury had a body she would have hips wide and full of grace
that sway with captivation yet always take steps and walk away.

If luxury was a woman she would be beautiful yet extremely sly
eluding you with bright lipstick as she drugs you and simply says
"bye bye!!"

Pickles and Peace on the Side

"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed.  Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude."
  ~Denis Waitley

I am life partake of me
I am at your service
I am your maitre-de
I am the menu
within your hands
the choice is yours
what will you have?
Today's special is
happiness on rye
with pickles and peace
on the side
or would you rather
have discontent
with a cup of soup?
It's time to order
it's up to you?

The Homage of Trees

Google Images

"The groves were God's first temples."
 ~William Cullen Bryant

Like baptist steeples they reach toward the skies
a choir in motion that like spirits they rise

they achieve greatness dwelling in the roots of home
a tribe in ceremony that never sways or falls alone

their lineage is founded on contentment's core
an allegiance of bonding that settles deep yet soars

freedom is held within the winds of thier dance
for their own liberty aspires right where they stand.

A Penny To A Child

When I was a child
rushing to play
I saw a penny sparkle
on the pavement
I picked it up
gladly
with full hands
so sure it was a wish
that would someday come true...
but somewhere between
the sparkle and fades
the cares and casualties
the grandeur and mundane
when my hands were grown
that one cent coin
slipped through
my empty hands
and fell to the pavement
so I left it gladly
too busy to pick it up.

What a Seagull Never Told You

What a seagull never told you about why he flies away is the farther up you fly the broader the view you get of the shore you left behind.

What a wild horse never told you is some chained up fences can be jumped.

What a river never told you is getting off the flowing path may mean your whole world may pass you right by.

What a pine tree never told you is those that stand together never fall alone.

What a valley never told you is that sometimes the safest place to wait out the storm is right where you are.

What a sunset never told you is if you leave today behind does not mean you cannot come back and start all over again tomorrow.

What a pigeon never told you is sometimes the thrown crumbs don't come right to us we must go to them.

What a sparrow never told you is the leaver sometimes loses the nest.

What a goldfish never told you is maybe the bowl you are swimming in is just where you were meant to be.
