“A poet looks at the world the way a man looks at a
woman.” ~ Wallace Stevens
The world is a runway and poets are forever in a photo shoot
Clicking through the blue smoke
Of life’s illusions
Searching for the candid moment
seeing every heartache
parting the lips of unspoken words
And capturing every hidden truth
Exposing life and love
naked, raw, and
lovely
not for the eyes to examine or identify
but for the heart
to truly behold.
WOW, Carrie!!! This is so good! What was on your cornflakes this morning, girl? Whatever it was, we should all have some. :-)
ReplyDeleteAwww thank you so much Shay! I think you are already eating those cornflakes every single day. You always amaze me with your poetry!!
DeleteCarrie, I love this dearly., it's what I'd like to be for every write. "Not for the eyes ... but for the heart ..." of every reader to fit his spirit.

ReplyDeleteI like that life is a photo shoot for poets on the world's runway! Great concept … and so true!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Beverly. Yes it is like that to me. When I am out and about, I tend to people watch quite a bit. Something I think most writers tend to do.
DeleteSnapshots of time. Beautifully captured.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lori....so glad you stopped by.
DeleteWell, of course you had me at the Wallace Stevens quote(he is the reason I write poetry.) But your poem addresses that thought so cannily that it seems almost as if the last word has been said, or at least one of the most cogent whys of all this pen and ink explained. I especially liked the image of 'parting the lips of unspoken words.." A pleasure to read, and thanks for your kind comment at my place.
ReplyDeleteI love Wallace Stevens too Joy. It makes me happy that you like my poem, and you are very welcome. I truly love yours! You have an amazing talent and like Shay's writing, your poetry always leaves me in awe!
Delete+1 on the Wallace Stevens!!
