The Candid Moment

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 95
hosted by one of my favorite poets in the whole world
Come join us!

“A poet looks at the world the way a man looks at a woman.”  ~ Wallace Stevens

The world is a runway and poets are forever in a photo shoot
Clicking through the blue smoke
Of life’s illusions
Searching for the candid moment
seeing every heartache
parting the lips of unspoken words
And capturing every hidden truth
Exposing life and love
 naked, raw, and lovely
not for the eyes to examine or identify
but for the heart
to truly behold.

    1. Thanks so much Beverly. Yes it is like that to me. When I am out and about, I tend to people watch quite a bit. Something I think most writers tend to do.

  6. Well, of course you had me at the Wallace Stevens quote(he is the reason I write poetry.) But your poem addresses that thought so cannily that it seems almost as if the last word has been said, or at least one of the most cogent whys of all this pen and ink explained. I especially liked the image of 'parting the lips of unspoken words.." A pleasure to read, and thanks for your kind comment at my place.

  7. I love the idea of our poems being a photo shoot, capturing moments the way we do with our cameras. That is exactly it! Loved this, Carrie.
