Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 93
Once I had plans tucked in my pockets so deep
To see the world and do the greatest of things
Like maps to a fortune and hopes only key
I would never let them out of my reach
No matter where I rested my head
I had dreams of better things up ahead
Then one day when the bluest sky was a deeper grey
I spread them out like fresh linen would surely lay
Somehow there were wrinkles that no iron could press
Not what my younger self would have come to expect
Sometimes life knocks you plum off your feet
Ruffles your feathers and loses your only keys
You just have to pull yourself up off the ground
Dust off your trousers
And wear your best boots to town.
A nice segue, Carrie, "bluest sky was a deeper grey." So expect the worst, trouble. And of course it "loses your only keys." The latter is a big concern at our house, both cars are like that. I lost one set under a car seat which should have been easy to find, and Mrs. Jim lost the other someplace in our house.

Like a country song!
ReplyDeleteAh, I love that closing. Have done that more than a time or two.
ReplyDeleteI remember being told growing up that life will kick you down and you better be tough. Pick yourself back up as no one else is going to do it for you. It's about resilience , the ability
ReplyDeleteto rebound. That's when you need to go shopping for those new boots.
Oh, that line about wrinkled hopes just floored me. This is a beautiful set up for that ending. :)
ReplyDeleteI so relate to this. Love how the poem ends--the best way to end. Thanks for the prompt so after my heart.
ReplyDelete"Like maps to a fortune and hopes only key" The image of these wrinkling is apt, so apt! And then the solution also shines. I certainly have done that--taking good care to shop for the right boots until I had to start wearing orthotics.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the Emmylou Harris song "White shoes"! <3

One just has to accept that in the face of failure one has to pick up the pieces
and start all over again. One more failure brings it nearer to success. Good thinking Carrie!

Wear your best boots to town. I love that advice, Carrie!

Great advice...
Love it.
ReplyDeleteLife works so much better when we remember that no matter how hard things get, we can always find a way to make them work for us--great boots are a fantastic way to do it.
