The heart carries loads that the hands cannot. ~Matshona Dhliwayo

Give your heart to a sailor it may get lost at sea
Takes a wild soul to do such things
But hoard your heart like a bitter old coot
May be stealing your own joyous loot
Takes a wise heart to see it clear
That being a giver makes for richer years
Those that are takers and hold on tight
End up weary from such wasted might
So tread the city with an open heart
That is when angel’s blessings soon impart

  2. Giving does, indeed, make us richer... if we all give. One day, all of us might. Yes, we will.

  3. Well, perhaps there's a happy medium – but yes, if it's a choice, err on the side of giving. As the angels do.

  4. Yes, the giving gives us riches - what more could we want?

  6. I see the sailor as more of a pirate. Also, I really like the "discovery" of the title in the poem. It really made for an "I get it" moment.

  9. Indeed, the more we give, share ..the better we are.
And, what we gives out ..comes back to us in some or the other way.

  10. and of course by doing so, we one ourselves to sadness and disappointment - but that is the price we pay for the pendulum to swing.

  11. thank you for visiting my sister's poem. She said she tried to leave a comment but couldn't. Sorry but she is new to blogging.

Love this line: " But hoard your heart like a bitter old coot
May be stealing your own joyous loot". It's a lovely quotable line that is very true.
