Linking with Imaginary Gardens for the prompt "writing unseen"
imagined by Isadora
" You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."
~ C. S. Lewis
Our bodies are a bed and breakfast lodge for a soul
that has places to go
we sometimes forget their presence
because they are the quietest of guests
treading down the innermost halls
preparing for a trip
with no plans to stay at all
so we attempt to keep up the cottage and
we fluff the pillows and smooth the sheets
but the soul doesn't eat a big breakfast
and never needs too much sleep
prolonging it's stay is futile
for it has plans we cannot conceive
if one looks with scientific eyes
they won't see past the amenities
but if we simply close them
and search within the confines of our heart
we will find there is something bigger
than this world could ever impart...
so I say to the world of traveling souls
and that means you and that means me to
have a little faith
and we'll leave the light on for you.
I love this opening line: Our bodies are a bed and breakfast lodge for a soul. Amazing thought this is.
ReplyDeleteI really like where this prompt took you, to be inspired by the unseen and then be in awe of it. The hugeness of the humility and the common wisdom here is exceptional! Viva la!
ReplyDeleteHow I'd like to think that was true and that our soul within has places to go.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I hope though.
DeleteAmazing write, left me with much to ponder
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
I love the idea of our bodies as 'a bed and breakfast lodge for a soul' and that they are 'the quietest of guests'!
ReplyDeleteLovely distant companionship here, the sense of an adjacent intimacy. Quintessence of the invisible partner and soul. The rhyme holds it in view with a faint silver. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that our bodies are a "bed and breakfast lodge for a soul". How cool. LOVE "there is something bigger than this world could ever impart". Fantastic write, Carrie!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry....so glad that you stopped by. <3
DeleteNice parallel, Carrie. I like the Soul part, and yes, please leave the light on.
ReplyDelete..
A lilt to this that is very pleasing, as well as an original and adroit metaphor. I especially liked "...the soul doesn't eat a big breakfast..."
ReplyDeleteThis is really really nice, Carrie. I love it.
ReplyDeleteYes... leave the light on
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. For the soul is, indeed, a guest in flesh and bone... I had never thought of it like that. But you've made it perfectly clear.
ReplyDeleteWe are truly a world of 'traveling souls.' Ms. Carrie I enjoyed this!!
ReplyDelete"we fluff the pillows and smooth the sheets..." Sweet, very sweet poem and I love C.S. Lewis and his wonderful books of faith and religion.
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteAnd this:
