All of life is the exercise of risk. ~William Sloane Coffin

I have always longed to have the heart of a daredevil performer
flying the trapeze and walking the high wire tightrope
moving confidently forward with no net to play it safe
yet instead my heart has chosen to stay behind the scenes
content to be a quiet cook standing still in the kitchen of life
willing to serve love and soft devotion on a plate
just be ware my complacent lover....
there may be a wild hair in the
 middle of your mashed potatoes!

  8. You've made me laugh aloud. As I read it, I was thinking, But you do all your wonderful daredeviling in your poetry. And that's yummy! Then I kept on reading... got to the potatoes, and burst out laughing.

    Thank you for that!

The fact that one stays behind is a measure of being more balanced in outlook. This is better than being a daredevil. Rightly so Carrie!

  13. Nothing wrong being an audience, but sometimes the star inside us just wanted an out to claim for the spot light, making frustrations beyond just what it is. I love your poem, Carrie! :)

  15. Always, the quiet ones, you have to look out. Although, honestly, I find myself, being reflected, in this beautiful poem, Carrie. As if, you reached across the internet, and pulled part of my soul here.

  17. Gorgeous, especially the image of the quiet cook and the implication of being willing to maybe be the risk rather than the one who risks.

  19. Beautiful humor woven in truth. Sacrifice for love and duty, often over looked, should be respected.

  23. Appreciate the dreams and the wishes with the devil-may-care attitude, Carrie!
It's the choice of the silent cook to serve with devotion in the kitchen of life; doesn't mean that they have no other wishes to fulfill as they choose to sacrifice & rather serve.
May the world adjust with them! A strand of hair should give no scare!
