surely is a dying craft.
Who needs a pen and paper
when a computer is in your lap.
E-mails have replaced our need of stamps
and facebook the envelopes.
Now the mail man only delivers bills
and stationary companies are going broke.

Definitely letter writing is a dying craft. I think about that sometimes. So much now is written quickly (texting) or in short form (email / facebook) that the art of the beautifully composed letter with perfect handwriting is a thing of the past. I used to LOVE to choose stationery. Now I have a ton of it I will never use. Your poem is good, true; and it makes me sad!
ReplyDeleteit is pretty sad that love letters dont come in the mail....i love the feel of one...the smell of one....ahhh...i still keep a few for inspiration...smiles.

ReplyDeleteLove the poem ... and yes it's true. A few months ago I received a letter from a dear friend who lives far away. It was just a simple letter telling me how much she values our friendship, how I have always made her laugh, that she admires me. I can't tell you how that impacted me.
ReplyDeleteReceiving and sending hand written letters had a touch of personal warmth ... so sad it is obsolete now !!!

ReplyDeleteYes, a real shame, ut the show must go on... and thank that you can tell us, we can tell you... w can interact easily and love letters still needed since writing is still needed...

ReplyDeleteThere is a nice rhythm to the poem, does it need to be in the centre of the page? To nitpick a little more, has Facebook actually replaced our need for envelopes it works on the surface, but not sure. For all that it did make me smile.

ReplyDeleteI still love to write letters, and I have to admit that I like it way more than writing emails - and well, Facebook is something I never really liked for several reasons.
ReplyDeleteFor me writing a letter is more personal, because you need more time and when you wrote anything wrong, you have to write it all over again. And also that the other person can see your handwriting makes it more special, in my mind.
