Ideals are like stars: you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the seafaring man on the ocean desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them, you reach your destiny.
~Carl Schurz
When a writer sits before his desk with outstretched arms to type
it is like an awkward dancer tapping upon a stage
the ideas and words swing and tango until they just collide
the ideas and words swing and tango until they just collide
and then they make their grand entrance one by one hitting the page.
I completely agree with Schurz and you, my dear Carrie-(long time not see!!!)
ReplyDeleteYes, it so happens with words in our minds... all you have to do is lift up the curtains for them to act... and the show is guaranteed!
And what a beautiful combination they make! Succinct and poetically sweet!
ReplyDeleteIf only it were that easy but I do like the idea of words dancing and creating meaning:-)
ReplyDeleteI love your header - it's magnificent.
nice...great metaphor...it is a dance...and sometimes it is graceful and then sometimes...well...smiles.
ReplyDeleteNice rhyme scheme, as I mark it, it largely swings along in a kind of Morse code short-long-short-long, but breaks for changes in pace that underscore the sound, image, and meaning of "tapping" and "one by one".
ReplyDeleteYes it is like that, ideas coming together in a dance. Love your new photo.
ReplyDeleteyes! that is writing! at 1st its awkward & you dont know exactly whats to come about... sometimes a beautiful piece is the end product.. other times not so much! great poem.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful description of the process of writing.
ReplyDeleteA delightful read!
ReplyDeleteLoved it!

ReplyDeleteOh yes - that makes so much sense - love it !!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe've all had that feeling. Once or twice. Mostly not, but we soldier on regardless.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote and then your little piece. So few words can express the soul in a million different ways. Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice piece of writing! "the ideas and words swing and tango until they just collide" I really liked this line:)
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison...love the image of the awkward dance.
ReplyDeleteYour imagery is just beautiful, and so perfectly apt.
ReplyDeleteGreat metaphors! Sometimes my writing feels like a dance, and sometimes more like a drunken stagger!
ReplyDelete..ah, excellent.. words do reflect in our actions.. as for me, ‘tis very timely and suits perfectly with what i’m currently going through.. thanks for the lessons and the read!(:
ReplyDeleteBrightest blessings!(:

I love the image of ideas and words that swing and tango.
ReplyDeleteWriting is not easy! The ideas are there and sometimes they come together and sometimes they don't. You have described it perfectly Carrie.
ReplyDeleteCarrie,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to find your words. It can be difficult sometimes to 'hear the message' when we are in a difficult place.
I love your seasonal Blog image Carrie. It would be very inspirational in itself!
Eileen :)
I miss my old typewriter now, I think I'll dig it out and peck away until something waltzes along, nice one :^)
