Monumental Choices

Magpie #65

God never makes bloodless stoics; He makes no passionless saints.
~Oswald Chambers Cabbage

We build our own history like a monument for all to see
each decision and every action
a portion of clay and mortar
spreads and forms
whether it
becomes
a wall
a bridge
or beautiful monument
depends on us.

  4. 'We build our own history like a monument for all to see'. A great line expressing a darker side to creativity maybe, but notwithstanding the motives that build history, we are blessed with satisfying examples of art, engineering, shapes and colour to adorn our living spaces. 'Man does not live on falafel alone!' (Multiculturalism again :-).

  5. "We build our own history..." What we become "depends on us." We always think our walls (or barriers) are a necessity when we actually build them out of fear. Let me be a bridge! You've eloquently made a magnificent metaphor here, Carrie.

  7. Carrie,

A beautiful written piece of poetry, to accompany the image of St Francis.
We are to others, what we make of ourselves in life.
The legacy we leave as well, by our actions.
    Best wishes, Carrie,
    Eileen :)

  9. This is profoundly true. Recent history proves it out - the walls we have built between peoples, nations... why can't there be more bridges, more commonality? Isn't that the essence of being human, to love? Thank you, Carrie. Amy
