Some birds are poets and sing all summer. ~Henry David

Once my words were caged
Strangled by silence
Like a shy child
They lingered close
In quiet spaces
Whispering in my ear
where no one else would hear
But with time they grew
And so did I
Old cages get rusty
but old birds still fly
now the silence is stifled by words
they reach far places
like migrating birds.

  1. Yes, old birds still fly, and there is much life wisdom in our words. I love this, Carrie. Amazing photo, too.

  3. "...old birds still fly" has got to be one of my favorite lines to date. Along with the idea that we can grow out of our bars, this is a moving & needed poem. :)

  5. A bird is always beautiful old or young and should never be caged.

  7. Words echo and never really die I suspect.. Nicely captured. :)

  8. In ink, we can grow wings. And that reads so gloriously delightful here. Fly, baby... fly!

  9. Your poems blow me away, lady. Truly lovely poem here.
I wrote something similarly inspired to the photo you use for this. It's simply called Fly. I'd love for you to come have a look when you can.
