All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. ~Havelock Ellis
I always had a big plan
to prove to the world
and maybe a little to myself
that I could get somewhere in this life...
fry something better than balogna sandwich
go to college and earn a degree
something more valid than the school of hard knocks
move forward with dignity
not spinning my wheels
stirring up dust a mile wide
blocking my vision
of the light at the end of the tunnel
holding myself captive
to the place where I stood
in a desert of regrets
thats where they grow best
where we feel there is no way out
but sometimes that is the place of the spectacular
where elephants grow wings and eyes open wide
looking for something greater than ourselves
to get us through
we find there is a bigger plan
than the one we held so tightly
a beautiful freedom of letting go
of our weary might
and letting God
be God.
O!M!G! Carrie, this is simply MAGNIFICENT. And it is the journey, my friend. It gets easier when we stop trying to steer, let go and just enjoy the ride. What a trip it all is, hey? I so love the elephant with wings, both picture and in your poem.......wow. Yes, there is a bigger plan. When I was living it, it often seemed a mishmash but when I look back I can see why everything had to happen as it did. GREAT writing, Carrie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteCarrie, one of the sayings that often gets me through hard times is "Let go and let God." You don't know how many this has helped me.
ReplyDeleteCarrie, there is a big plan. You are part of it. Please trust, and keep writing your poetry.
Oh lordy, I am tritto with Tess and Kathy B. A successful poem with a bologna sandwich is a wonder to behold. That's the point at which the elephant received permission to grow her wings.

I agree with the Ralph Waldo Enerson quote above the comments box. And one finds the best thoughts in Blogland. Well chosen words.
ReplyDeleteAn elephant with wings could very well be the perfect metaphor for My Big Plan, unrealized. If you're curious. my Magpie 85 is Topsy.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written. We do feel at times that we've dug a hole for ourselves, and thats where sorrows foment. But salvation isn't all that difficult from such a predicament. Very well done !!!
